The Palatine Hill is considered to be the center of the Seven Hills of Rome. The Palatine Hill belongs to some parts of the oldest areas within the city and it has been described as ‘the first nucleus in the Roman Empire.’ It rises 40 meters above the Roman Forum, looking down at it from one side while on its other side sits the Circus Maximus. Since houses were here in Augustus’ time, this is where imperial palaces were built.

The road now known as Via dei Fori Imperiali was first called Via dei Monti and then changed to Via dell'Impero. It runs right through the center of Rome, Italy in a straight line from Piazza Venezia all the way to the Colosseum. This path cuts across parts of Forum of Trajan, Forum of Augustus, and Forum of Nerva with some pieces from these old sites still showing on both sides of the road. Major archaeological digs have taken place on each side of this street since the 1990s which has proven that great artifacts from the time of Imperial Rome are still lying beneath it.
