Over 127,000 visitors in one weekend: the Colosseum Archaeological Park tops the list of most visited cultural sites. Discover the strategy behind this success.
The Colosseum Archaeological Park recorded record numbers of visitors during the August 2025 holiday weekend: 76,860 visitors to the Colosseum and 50,393 to the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill. A weekend that confirms the timeless charm of the ancient heart of Rome, capable of attracting tourists and Romans alike under the same sky steeped in history.
What makes this place a global icon, despite the centuries? "It's not just marble and stone, but a living history," explains Alberto Samona of the Park Board of Directors. It is a mix of conservation, innovation and cultural programming that appeals to all generations.

Meanwhile, among the avenues of the Palatine, visitors walked on the same stones trodden by emperors and poets. And as the sun set over the Arch of Constantine, someone whispered, 'Time seems to stand still here'.
A Summer of Triumphs for the Park
The secret? A strategy that combines research and spectacle. "From restoration to night visits, every detail is taken care of," says Samona. And with the arrival of new director Simone Quilici, the challenge is to keep up the momentum.
Where and When to Visit the Park
Open every day, with online tickets to avoid queues. Our advice? Go early in the morning when the light casts a spell on the monuments.
Some places never cease to amaze. And the Colosseum, yesterday and today, is one of them.
